How Safe is Your Facility?

Security Vulnerability Assessment Software

SVA-Pro is a software product that helps you perform vulnerability analyses quickly and efficiently.

Companies with facilities that may be disrupted or those containing hazardous materials need to assess the risk of security breaches, whether by terrorists, activists or criminal acts that may result in severe economic impacts as well as loss of life. This can be accomplished by performing a Facility Vulnerability Analysis?(FVA). Vulnerability analysis determines the extent to which a facility may be considered as susceptible to security breaches from adversaries, whether internal or external to the facility. Facility Vulnerability Analysis is used to identify potential sources and circumstances that could result in disruption and loss of containment scenarios resulting from internal or external adversaries.

Facility Vulnerability Analysis can be used for a wide range of facilities that include, but are not limited to:

Chemical manufacturing facilities
Refineries
Gas Plants
Pipelines
Petrochemical facilities
Fertilizer manufacturing facilities
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities
Facilities storing/processing hazardous substances
Facilities that contain hazardos substances
Power generation and transmission facilities

The facility is divided into areas, and credible threats within each area are considered. Impact vulnerabilities are identified by analyzing the ways that barriers and protective mechanisms can be breached and loss of containment, disruption or other severe consequences experienced. Facility design and layout, security, controls, safeguards, computerized and other support systems are considered. Checklists are used to assist in the analysis and potential consequences are recorded. Threat attractiveness is considered in terms of likelihood of breach, potential impacts and motivation. Security measures already in place and existing safeguards are listed. Recommendations for additional countermeasures that may be needed to reduce the likelihood of breach or attack and severity of adversarial impacts are made for consideration by management. These are based on the likelihood of attack on specific targets, motivation due to possible consequences, and weak links in existing security measures and safeguards that may need to be addressed. Risk rankings of specific cases are performed as part of the assessment.

Facility Vulnerability Analysis is performed using SVA-Pro software which provides a series of SVA templates and an SVA worksheet. customized to suit individual customer requirements since it is recognized that each facility and each customer has unique concerns related to this sensitive and current subject. SVA-Pro speeds up the process of completing a vulnerability analysis and allows the user to produce high quality documentation. In addition, there are built-in security features that limit and restrict access to personnel allowed to view the study.

Facility Vulnerability Analyses require appropriate and periodic reviews and updates to ensure that the facility security programs and features remain current and vigilant and are based on up-to-date threat scenarios. Facility Vulnerability Analyses should also be updated whenever there are significant changes to the facility, hazardous materials or threats. SVA-Pro provides a powerful analytical tool that can be used to integrate effective security measures into the day-to-day running of the facility.
